Coaching is a process, not an event; and is, by nature, iterative and multi-phasic. A coaching engagement starts with understanding the nature of the coachable issues–what the challenges and opportunities are, and what the coaching client will be able to be and do if the coaching engagement is successful.

Coaching is forward- and results-oriented, and seeks to deliver the coaching client to a desired future state. Although coaching is not therapy, it often requires rigorous self-honesty, vulnerability, and courage. Because coaching is often a vulnerable endeavor, chemistry and trust between coach and client matter.

“Coaching is not telling people what to do— it’s giving them a chance to examine what they ARE doing, in light of their intentions.”
